Hello there and welcome to the new home of Get On With IT Already! So it looks a little different (and may still change a bit as I work more tech stuff) but it’s still the same me! Now back to normal programming……
I always thought I had no willpower. I have succumb to many a bad habit over the years and I have just kept on going. I would say to myself, oh I would do that if I really wanted to but that time never came around.
I have a tendency to take things close to obsessive level. Not just one glass of black soft drink, not just one cigarette, not just one piece of chocolate…
So when I say that I can’t stop, I am kinda speaking the truth but not really.
That is until I made up my mind to just do it. To just stop drinking the excessive amounts of black soft drink every day. I could not wean, I could not cut down to just one or two sips/cups/whatever amount, it had to be ALL or NOTHING!
And I did! The very minute I walked out of the ‘Shop of Sugar’ (aka Servo) that I had worked at (amongst the many over 15 years), I did just that.
There was no temptation. I removed it from the house. I did not have to spend over 8 hours in a day looking at it and all it’s varieties. The only way I would fall off this bandwagon was if I could not control myself for the very limited time I had to step foot into a shop.
I must say that after the initial cut-off, I have given into temptation. I have had the odd one here or there. And that is okay. That is not a failure. I have massively reduced intake and that is a WIN.
Willpower is power over the mind. So many of us think we do not have the power to change. The power to control our minds.
Well, we do!! This chicky who thought she never could, did.
I am taking that willpower and running with it.
Regular readers will know of my quest to become a morning person. I am a nightowl through and through. I enjoy the peace and serenity that is all other household members asleep, the ability to gather my thoughts without constant interuption or fluff around on the web and watch completely senseless TV.
I would stay up way too late each and every night and wake up tired each and every morning.
I could not get done in a day that I needed to. That time spent late at night was detrimental to my energy levels, my enthusiasm for life and in turn, my health and my family.
I knew things had to change.
But how? Can a nightowl really change it’s ways? How can I enjoy mornings? Can one really change their mindset?
All these questions I have either asked myself or had others ask through this journey. I can honestly say that if you want IT enough, you can!
Think about your ultimate day….
How do you want to feel? For me, it is ENERGIZED. What’s yours?
What makes you feel that way? For me, it is EXERCISE. What’s yours?
I want to get back into exercising on a regular basis and just could not muster the time or energy to do it. It’s that vicious cycle of needing energy to produce more energy.
I know that it will give me more energy and enthusiasm, increase my health and benefit both my productiveness and my family. All areas I previously stated needed work.
I want to go for a run in the early hours of the morning, it is the only time I will be able to fit it in. To do this, I need to get up early aka be a morning person.
But this body is very used to staying up late and crawling out at around 7am. This would not be an easy task. The all or nothing approach is not going to cut it with this goal, and that’s okay – there is no one rule to say that you have to approach your goals in the same manner, do what works for you, in each instance but have a plan.
My plan consists of set baby steps aka mini goals.
Get to bed earlier – 10pm is latest at the moment, working up to being asleep by 9:30pm
Wake up earlier – At the moment I have managed to get up between 5:30 and 6:00am.
They say one needs eight hours sleep but after a few early nights I have woken up around the seven hour mark and felt ready to take on my day. So seven hours it is, my ultiimate wake up time is 4:30am. I know, a ridiculous hour but if I want to run and be back in time for Hubby to leave for work, it must be done.
I have a clear goal in sight.
I am taking baby steps to get there.
I am re-training my mind to shut down earlier and wake up earlier.
It can be done.
What is stopping you from your ultimate day?
Most importantly, what are you going to do about it?

Phew! Thanks for taking the time to check it out for me x
Good form. I like the way that you don’t consider a small relapse (a little bit of black sugary drink) a failure. This way your prooving that you’ve really changed. You can go off target and get back on again.
As for the mornign runs, I love them. It’s the best way to walk around for the rest of the day and feel great about yourself

Yes Kevin, that’s it – that feeling you have all day from your morning run – I want that… and I am well on my way to getting it. Thanks for stopping by
Oh Stacey-Lee! Your new digs look fabulous!! I love it!
I was having a mope this morning wondering what on earth I was going to blog about. I had read that you had a new site and that you were testing a linky today and wondered what I could add…. Then I thought that this would be the perfect space to share a little series of posts I have put together based on some speaking I did on the weekend….
Thanks so much for taking Team Friday and running with it. I am so glad it found a good home here…

I am hoping the new home complete with thumbnail links for TEAM Friday can finally do the linky justice
This is really a great post Stacey-Lee! Congrats on your new site! I’m linking a recipe I’ve done for another blog this week but I also put a link to your site on my blog. Will power is something amazing. I wanted to try to write a novel for years and I just decided to finally doing it with the NaNoWriMo challenge. And I’ve been writing… I still can’t believe I can do it. But I set my mind to it and I’m not giving up even if I find the whole thing very difficult.

Thanks. It’s all good Rita, link up whatever you like. I love to read your recipes (and crafty posts), it gives me inspiration and motivation to stop churning out the same old, same old at the dinner table. Yay for getting on with the book writing, it must feel soooo good to be chipping away at your goals x
Looks great, Stacey-Lee! Love the header

I can relate to so much of this. I was never a morning person until the last few years, and that’s only because of my early-rising son! I was at the beach at 5:50 this morning, and it was still hot, the sun was already way too high in the sky for that time of day. My run was terrible, just was not feeling it, and sometimes we need to be ok with saying “screw it”. The beauty of running at the beach is that I can say screw it, and continue back to where I started…along the beach! I did get 20 minutes of running in, and also managed another 15 or so just me, the waves, the sand and water at my feet (and a couple hundred other people!). I also need to NOT buy it and just remove all temptation. The longer I go without the easier it is to just have one, or to just say no.

I love your attitude. I know that when I get in the right mindset I can do some awesome stuff, like lose weight before my wedding, or give up smoking. Sadly I am struggling to find that attitude in regards to losing the last of my baby weight but I am trying! I am so impressed by your goal to become a morning person and will be reading keenly to see how it goes. I too am the ultimate night owl, always have been but sometimes I dearly wish I was a morning person. I have to say though, getting up at 4:30am is almost night, so maybe you could just be a night owl but at the beginning of the day! Lol!
Thanks Kylez! It truly is about the right mindset. I had the wrong one for so long. So I shall become a ‘early morning owl’ lol
Woo! Look at you!! So impressed with your progress with all things blogging, quitting and early-birding. You’ve got this Getting On With It thang happening girl! x
Thanks Nee! So it would seem, hey? Shows that if one really wants something, they can get on with it more easily than they thought! x Linking up next week Nee?
I need to cut out the yucky black drink too, but seeing as I’m working on cutting out alcohol I’ll just do one at a time.
It’s hard changing your body clock, but good on you for doing it!

It is hard and I am slowly turning it around so as to not send my body into too much shock!
Becoming a morning person is very high on my to do list also. I am going to be following your progress closely for tips
Great, we can become morning people together! Slow and steady..
Good on you for taking some steps towards being healthier and happier. Sounds like you’re well on your way. Yay for baby steps! And thanks for passing on your super enthusiastic message to others including myself
Enthusiastic I am! Reaching each baby step gives a sense of accomplishment and motivation to move forward. Thanks for stopping by
Hope to see you again
I hit the pool today for the first time in 2 years looking for that energy and I found it 60 laps later
60 laps!! Go You!! Hope you are not hurting too much tomorrow
